We thought to share some of the things we learnt from one of the sessions.
Do you feel the need to be more organized and productive? Do you spend the whole of your day in a frenzy of activities and then wonder why you haven’t accomplished much? These time management tips are for you;
- Find out where you’re wasting time:
What are your time bandits? Do you spend much time surfing the internet, texting, making personal calls?
Record the daily activities that are constantly accessible to you, so you can know exactly what you do when you do it.
- Create time management goals
The focus of time management is changing your behavior, not changing time. Get rid of your time wasters.
For example, set a goal that you’re not going to take personal phone calls or respond to non-work related text messages while working.
- Use time management tools
Whether it’s a Day-Timer, a software program or a phone app, the first step to physically managing your time is to note all your tasks and plan how much time you are going to spend on each.
A software program such as Outlook, for instance, lets you schedule events easily and can be set to remind you of events in advance, making your time management easier.
You should start each day with a session, prioritizing the tasks for that day and setting your performance benchmark. Make a list of tasks that need your immediate attention, as unimportant tasks can consume much of your time.
If you have 20 tasks for a given day, how many of them do you truly need to accomplish? Set time limits for each task.
- Avoid Procrastination
Procrastination is one of the things that badly affects productivity. It can result in wasting essential time and energy. Avoid it!
- Schedule Tasks
Use a planner/notebook regularly, list all the tasks that come to mind. Make a simple ‘To Do’ list before the start of the day, prioritize the tasks, and make sure they are attainable.
To better manage your time management skills, you may think of making 3 lists: Work, Home, and Personal list.
- Set up Deadlines
When you have a task at hand, set a realistic deadline and stick to it.
Try to set a deadline few days before the task so that you can complete all those tasks that may get in the way. Challenge yourself to meet the deadline. Also, you can reward yourself for meeting a difficult challenge.
These tips will help you increase your productivity and stay cool and collected.
